Monday – 竇靖童 Monday – Leah Dou / Dou Jingtong

Drumroll please – Leah Dou is back!

It’s a little strange listening to her (I guess it’s “her”?! But the pronoun could be “them”!) singing a heterosexual love ballad hahaha (?!), but Lionman (CHN) did a great job at the Cantonese rap as the co-lyricist and co-arranger for “Monday,” and he is very convincing as the super shy “Super Mario living on the next block.” I can picture them together on funky, goofy romantic dates!

So…great dates consist of orangeade, sunset, awkward convos and BURNING desires to be together lol for Leah? Noted √

Back to Leah – I love her vibe. She’s really chill and laid-back. Maybe this interview explained it all – she is indeed a kid who doesn’t lack candy and hence the calm demeanor and the secure attachment style noticeable in every song and every interview…Leah was born in 1997 to musicians Wang Fei / Faye Wong and Dou Wei. She’s got incredible genes AND wisdom beyond her years! This is her last album. Listen! Isn’t that dreamy and a bit psychedelic?

Let’s also talk about Chen Jiaying / Katie Chan, the woman behind Leah and Faye. She’s their agent and also Leah’s “gran” because she took care of baby Leah during Faye’s Yuezi [puerperium, the traditional one-month convalescence period following childbirth, during which the mother follows a special diet and observes various taboos to protect the body from exposure to the “wind”] as well as her divorce from Dou Wei in 1999. Ms. Chan treats her artistes as her own children. She’s the unsung heroine in Leah’s and Faye’s career achievements.

Hopefully we’ll have the great fortune to hear more of Leah’s and Faye’s success stories in the years to come as they continue to be managed and supported by Katie!

[Verse 1]
Just now I was standing at the crossing
The happy elements abounded in the air
Listening to the MP3 playing Fantasy [Note: Fantasy is a cool 2001 album by Jay Chou.]
I thought of you again
Thinking of you is something irresistible
Stuck in my dreaming baby
Stuck in my dreaming baby [Note: I think it’d be better if this line were “Stuck in my dream my baby.”]
In the golden sky, clouds slid by
It seemed to match what’s going on in my heart

[Pre-Chorus]
If the wind and the rain morphed into you
I’d like to turn into the ground [so we’d be] together

[Chorus]
Monday
Monday
Sunday
I’d walk with you till it’s Sunday
to ride the last streetcar
to watch the sunset with you
We’d go drink orangeade
I’d like to go on romantic dates with you

[Verse 2]
No need to say much
This moment, this minute, the heart’s still racing
Listening to the sounds, drawing this melody
my mind is filled with you
One sunny day – that scene was so cinematic
[We were] driving a race car on the mountain road – the footage was all shot on an 8-mm film
The breeze by the ocean contained your gentleness
It seemed to match what’s going on in my heart

[Pre-Chorus]
If the Pacific Ocean turned into you
I’d like to morph into a breeze to accompany you

[Interlude]
The first time we met
I was shy as I’d always been
You asked me why I was wearing the helmet
Maybe because I’m Super Mario living on the next block
Anyway it’s impossible that I could be your Mr. Right
How come there be such a great thing
Even Monkey King is not as naughty as I am
Coming to this teeming world – I don’t even understand why I’m here
Driving around
I came again to the seaside with you
Taking you to see the city basking in a sunset
The night view on the mountaintop is like [a sea of] flickering neon signs
Nice to meet you
Meeting you is like having the clock turned back

[Chorus]
Monday
Monday
Sunday
I’d walk with you till it’s Sunday
to ride the last streetcar
to watch the sunset with you
We’d go drink orangeade
I’d like to go on romantic dates with you
