The Chinese title of the song literally means “In the Whole World Who Listens to You.” I think “Who in the Whole World Listens to You” is a better title.

This song is a soundtrack for the 2016 movie “I Belonged to You.” The Chinese movie title literally means “Pass by Your Whole World.”

Word-for-Word Translation for Chinese Learners:

VERSE #1:
多希望有一個像你的人
How I wish there would be someone like you
但黃昏跟清晨無法相認
But the fall of dusk and the break of dawn are unable to acknowledge each other

[Note: This line employs an analogy to imply the great difficulty of being in a relationship of one’s dreams: It is as difficult as having the dusk and the dawn meet and recognize each other.]

雨停了 歌停了 風繼續
The rain stopped, the song ended, [but] the wind continued
雨傘又遺落原地
The umbrella was left at the original spot

VERSE #2:
多希望你就是最後的人
How I wish you would be the last person

[Note: This line means “How I wish you would be my spouse.”]

但年輪和青春不忍相認
But tree rings and youth can’t bear to acknowledge each other

[Note: The lyricist juxtaposes the growth rings—a symbol of age—and youth and personifies them as the first verse does to “the fall of dusk” and “the break of dawn.”]

一盞燈 一座城 找一人
A lamp, a city, search for a person

一路的顛沛流離
Wander about in a desperate plight

CHORUS #1:
從你的全世界路過
I passed by your whole world
把全盛的我都活過
I had the days when I was in full bloom
請往前走 不必回頭
Please go ahead—there is no need to turn back
在終點等你的人會是我
The person waiting for you at the destination will be me

VERSE #2

CHORUS #2
從你的全世界路過
I passed by your whole world
把全盛的愛都活過
I had the days when love was in full bloom
我始終沒說 不增加你負荷
But I never told you, [to] not add to your burden
最後等你的人是我
The one who will wait for you till the last moment is me

CHORUS #1

VERSE #3:
你愛默默傾聽全世界
You love listening quietly to the whole world
全世界誰傾聽你
In the whole world who listens to you
一朵一朵一首一首的 曾經
Every flower and every song of [your] past

[Note: This evocative verse asks the love interest as well as the reader if they suffer from loneliness. The images of the flowers that carried one’s past experiences poetically correspond to the previous verse that says “I had the days when I was in full bloom.” “[E]very song of [your] past,” on the other hand, tallies with the storyline of “I Belonged to You” which revolves around two radio disc jockeys.]

CHORUS #1

請往前走 不必回頭
Please go ahead—there is no need to turn back
在終點等你的人會是我
