愿-王菲 (Wish-Faye Wong)

曲:讴歌 (Composer: Ou Ge)
词:慈诚培吉 (Lyricist: Ci Cheng Pei Ji/Lama Tsultrim)

在山水之间
Over waters and mountains
在佛塔之间
Among Buddhist pagodas
在聚散之间
Through meetings and partings
在你我之间
Between you and me

在山水之间 有一份信念 是静默无言
Over waters and mountains is the faith marked by silence
在佛塔之间 有一条经幡 是为你挂牵
Among Buddhist pagodas is a sutra streamer hung up for you
在聚散之间 有一劫宿缘 是无常善变
Through meetings and partings is a fated relationship subject to change and transience
在你我之间 有一缕思念 是魂绕梦牵
Between you and me is a wisp of longing turned into a recurring dream

此生 上路 哪怕天绝地穿
In this life, I hit the road despite the falling heaven and the collapsing ground
只愿 途中 能再与你 相见
I only wish to meet you again somewhere along the way

嗡嘛呢呗嚒哄舍 (repeat)
Om Mani Padme Hung Hri (repeat)

Notes:

This song uses the Nyingma version of the mantra of compassion, or the six syllabled mantra of Avalokiteshvara: “Om Mani Padme Hung.” This mantra of compassion is the primary mantra that has been used in Tibettan Prayer Wheels since the 7th Century:

1. “Om” has various meanings. Here it can be interpreted as “to praise;”
2. “Mani” literally means “changeable jewels.” Here it refers to fickle human nature;
3. “Padme” literally means “red lotus.” Here it refers to the unpolluted nature of mind;
4. “Hung” has various meanings. Here it can be interpreted as “reaching an epiphany through numerous obstacles and returning to one’s original nature.”

The mantra of “Om Mani Padme Hung” can not really be translated into a simple phrase or even a few sentences. A tentative synthesis could be: I’m willing to be converted by you, Avalolkiteshvara. I wish to retain under your guidance the unpolluted nature of mind, and to achieve my goals through epiphanies of Truth.
